Missed a Slip on Your Tax Return? Here’s How to Make Corrections

It’s more common than you think. You’ve filed your personal income tax return, and then realize a slip is missing or forgot to claim expenses that could provide valuable tax savings. Don’t worry! Mistakes happen, and the good news is that the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) allows you to make adjustments after filing.

Missed a Slip on Your Tax Return? Here’s How to Make Corrections

Here’s a simple guide to correcting your tax return when you’ve forgotten a T-slip, made an error, or discovered new information:

If you’re registered for CRA My Account, this is the quickest and most convenient way to make changes to your return.

  • Log in to your CRA My Account
  • Select “Change my return”
  • Choose the relevant tax year and enter the adjustments
  • Submit and wait for the CRA to review and confirm the changes

Note: You must wait until your original return has been assessed before you can request a change online.

If you’re not comfortable using CRA’s online tools or your change is more complex, you can submit a written request by mail.

Include:

  • A signed letter explaining what needs to be changed and why
  • Any supporting documents or missing slips
  • Your SIN and tax year clearly marked

Mail your package to your tax centre, which you can find here: CRA Tax Centre Addresses

This method can take longer, but it’s a valid and accepted way to submit changes.
